Community
Assistance Center
On December 12th, 2019, The Student Association of Sandy Springs volunteered at the CAC. They organized the food pantry, broke down boxes, and organized the closet. The CAC is a key part of the Sandy Springs community as an organization that prevents hunger and homelessness and provides aid such as food, clothing, and utilities for clients on the path towards self-sufficiency.

New American
Pathways
On October 5th, 2019, The Student Association of Sandy Springs organized refugee resettlement closets and learned about the efforts of New American Pathways, a non-profit agency, that helps refugees settle into the USA. They provide immigration and legal assistance, clothing, and household products to aid clients. With this project, SASS was able to give back to a larger community than Sandy Springs.
In 2019, students worked with members of Mount Vernon Towers to host a jeopardy day in order to engage and interact with members of the local Sandy Springs community.
This past election, we worked to get as many people involved in voting. We partnered with HeadCount in order to let voices be heard! We made posters and walked around the metro areas of Atlanta to post them. That way, we are reaching a larger audience within our community. Not only that, we have worked within our school to make sure everyone eligible to vote will vote because we want everyone's voices heard!

BLM Advocacy
The systemic oppression of African Americans is both immoral and unjust. In the United States, they have been targeted from asking to leave a restaurant to being killed on the streets. At SASS, we believe in community. We find it our duty to work on helping and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and strive to be equal and equitable. As you can see to the left and right, SASS has made some posters for the Black Lives Matter movement, not only to show our support but also to spread the word.
In these trying times of COVID-19, it can be hard to know you are loved. So this Valentine's Day, we worked on making Valentine's Day Cards for elderly folks. That way, they know they are always loved and always thought of! We have partnered with A.G. Rhodes, a senior living home, to ensure the impact we have on the elderly in our community. In these times of a pandemic, it can be hard to work with our community, but we made sure we could overcome that struggle and find ways to help our community just a little more!

Let's Make A Change
Below you may find our projects for the 2019-2020 year:
Action Ministries
Throughout 2020, Mount Vernon and North Springs have partnered with Action Ministries women's soup kitchen in order to tackle the issue of poverty in Atlanta. Through this, students have the opportunity to talk with those experiencing homelessness and poverty conditions in order to gain a better perspective. Additionally, students serve to provide a meal along with conversation during their volunteer experience.

Student Voice
On December 17th, 2019, The Student Association of Sandy Springs proposed the formation of a city-wide student advisory board. The board would give students in all Sandy Springs schools a voice in the decisions made in relation to young people. As students, we believe that we can provide a unique perspective into the improvements that can be made within the education system and within general city policy. The Student Association strives for city-wide participation and has already begun talks with other schools in the area.

Public & Private School Stereotypes
The Sandy Springs Community has a large amount of public and private schools. To bridge the gap between this diversity, Mount Vernon and North Springs have discussions each meeting to openly break down preconceived notions about public and private school students and school-life. In addition to this, both schools complete collaborative service projects, attend each other's theater events and are completing a mural exchange project.
